Reason Book was Chosen: Another book sent to me by my bookcrossing friend Shnedwards which is also in the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. As mentioned prior I'm trying to read as many books that I've received from bookcrossers over the years as possible (especially the ones from Adrienne and Shnedwards) and this is a continuation of that. I'm also trying to read as many of the 1001 books as possible, I'm using both the 2006 and 2008 editions so there's actually 1283 books to read, I've read 177 of them so far so I'm a long way off.
My Thoughts

I think for it’s time it’s an important novel but I’m not sure if it stands the test of time, I enjoyed it but I wasn’t aroused by it either if that was Cleland’s objective.
Fanny doesn’t seem to develop as a character at all and all that happens to her is very much down to luck. She’s totally dependent on a series of benefactors who just happen to cross her path. I think it’s a worthwhile read in terms of understanding how literature has progressed since it was published, some of the terminology used for the sex scenes just seem outrageous by today’s standards.
