Reason Book was Chosen: I’ve been meaning to read this book for some time, my wife loved it and she shared a passage from the novel with me which we ended up having as a reading at our wedding (strange considering all the religious [Christian] opposition to the novel). The trilogy of “His Dark Materials” is being adapted into a TV series by New Line Cinema with production from Bad Wolf for BBC One and HBO so I wanted to read this before the TV series is released. I had seen the film adaption called The Golden Compass but I can’t really remember it and I’ve heard since that it’s a bad adaptation.
My Thoughts

I loved this book, it’s so well written, the imagery is fantastic and it’s just a wonderfully crated novel.  I thought all the characters where well developed and Lyra although she can be a bit annoying (I felt she squealed a lot) was brilliant as the main protagonist.

I can’t wait to read the other books in the trilogy, I might have to look at if I’m able to slip them into this year’s reading list.
