My Thoughts

Loosely based around Tutankhamen, this book is more of a look at the afterlife as depicted in different tombs, not just King Tut’s. By the cover, I assumed this would have been just about King Tut and the vast treasures found in his tomb. There is a lot about that, but more so about the beliefs about the afterlife in general and how particular items found in tombs played into those beliefs. The pieces found in tombs like Tutankhamen’s are just absolutely stunning. I was amazed flipping through these pages to see intricate jewelry made of the finest metals and jewels, vast painted tomb walls depicting scenes from the deceased’s life, and sarcophagi of the highest beauty. This is a visual delight with some fantastic information added in.
