Here are my running rules:
Pick up trash
Stop to help
Smile
Pick up trash
This one’s rather simple. If you see garbage, pick it up and throw it in the first trash can you see.
Stop to help
If you see someone in need, stop your run and help them.
Smile
This changes the entire running experience. First, it helps you focus on the fun parts of running. Second, if you deploy a smile during a race, you will mess with the other runners so badly that it will give you an edge.
What does this have to do with reading?
I suggest finding a hobby where your brain is not engaged. When I run, my mind wanders. I know other people who take long showers, go on walks, or take a drive. You need a space for your brain to process what you read.
